DESTINATION MONASHEE POCKET GUIDE
Drive through the scenic farmland of the Mabel Lake Valley north from Lumby. Visit Shuswap and Cascade Falls and view Eagles of the Shuswap River welands. Walk on the sandy beaches of Mabel Lake then drive to the summit of Park Mountain for an amazing view of the Monashees.


From Lumby travel east to Creighton Valley road for a drive around the hump and back to Highway 6 returning to Lumby. Take a side-trip to Shuswap Falls. Explore art studios, unique nature resorts, easy walks on trails that mix art with nature view the Shuswap River and Echo Lake.

Take Sugar Lake Road north from Cherryville and swim and fish in Sugar Lake. Visit old growth rainforests and spectacular Rainbow Falls. For an active weekend trek explore Monashee Provincial Park for wildlife viewing in Grizzly Bear country. View the Sawtooth Range from the headwaters of the Shuswap River.

Explore the vast wilderness area called the Monashee (The Mountains of Peace) located one-hour north east of Kelowna and a half hour east of Vernon via Highway 6. A perfect destination for a day-trip or weekend excursion. You can pick up detailed maps and travel information from local Visitor Information Centres or from a local Bearfoot Adventure Information Centre.

The Monashee has a number of Provincial Parks and Ecological Reserves explore four Bioreserves identified by Bearfoot Canada as recreation areas that are ideal for nature-based travel. Keep in mind, that if your choose to explore the backcountry, be cautious and be well equipped, these mountains are remote and are rich in wildlife including Grizzly Bear Habitat.
